Ο Sydney Bertram Carter (1915-2004) ήταν Άγγλος ποιητής και τραγουδοποιός, ειρηνιστής με έργο αντιπολεμικό και υπηρέτησε και στην Ελλάδα, ως μέλος της οργάνωσης FAU (Friends’ Ambulance Unit).
Το 1965 κυκλοφόρησε ο δίσκος “sing round the year” από την “Galliard Records” με έξι τραγούδια του Sydney Carter, και περιελάμβανε το Standing In The Rain (σε στίχους και μουσική Sydney Carter), ενώ το 1968 το ροκ συγκρότημα “Reflection” κυκλοφόρησε τον δίσκο 33 στροφών: “The Present Tense (Songs Of Sydney Carter)” από όπου επιλέγουμε το “Standing in the rain”:

Το 1965 κυκλοφόρησε το βιβλίο του Donald Swann “Sing round the Year” (που δάνεισε και τον τίτλο του σε εκείνον τον πρώτο δίσκο του 1965) και εξέδωσε ο Bodley Head, όπου ο συγγραφέας συγκέντρωσε το υλικό με το σκεπτικό ότι θέλουμε νέα τραγούδια για παιδιά (και τους γονείς τους!) που να τραγουδιούνται σε όλη την διάρκεια του χρόνου. Τα τραγούδια ηχογραφήθηκαν από κορίτσια του Mayfield Compehensive School και αγόρια του Westminster School.
