Ο Τριαντάφυλλος Χαβάκης αποφοίτησε από την Σχολή το 1993. Σπούδασε Ιατρική στο Πανεπιστήμιο τουGiessen και το 2001 ολοκλήρωσε την διδακτορική του διατριβή (Doctorate degree (Dr. med), Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen). Είναι καθηγητής κλινικής παθοβιοχημείας στο Τεχνικό Πανεπιστήμιο της Δρέσδης και μελετά τη μεταβολική φλεγμονή στο ήπαρ.

Το Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο Έρευνας (ERC) ανακοίνωσε το 2015 ότι θα χρηματοδοτήσει με συνολικά 585 εκατομμύρια ευρώ, 302 ερευνητές στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος «2015 Consolidator Grant». Ανάμεσά τους βρίσκονται και 4 Έλληνες επιστήμονες ένας εκ των οποίων είναι και ο ίδιος.
